Endeavors Day Friends Adult Day Program

Endeavors Adult Development Center is a nonprofit in Balsam Lake that started its Day Friends program in 2011 for Polk County residents living with Alzheimer's disease, other dementias and traumatic brain injury. The program describes a person-centered, abilities-based approach with socialization and therapeutic activities in a safe, secure setting, and it gives family caregivers respite. Endeavors also runs a Day Services program at the same site for adults with the most significant disabilities, many of whom are non-verbal and need help with mobility and personal care. A reviewer says the drivers are on time and friendly. Day Friends is certified by the Wisconsin Department of Health Services as an Adult Day Care Center for up to 19 participants.

Day Friends offers therapeutic activities such as exercise, skills training and help with daily activities, plus planned social activities with other participants. Scheduled meals and snacks are included, special diets are accommodated, and staff help those who have difficulty eating. Endeavors staff provide door-to-door transportation county-wide in wheelchair-lift-equipped vehicles. The separate Day Services program offers music, movement, arts and crafts, library visits, community outings and daily living skills practice.

Endeavors is at 101 150th St, Balsam Lake, WI 54810, and Day Friends runs Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The program contracts with the Veterans Administration, the family care organization Community Link and Polk County Adult Protective Services, and offers a reduced self-pay rate that includes meals and snacks, with an extra fee for round-trip transport.
