After Gateway

After Gateway is a nonprofit day health program in Greensboro that has served adults with multiple and severe developmental disabilities since 2001. It accepts adults 18 and older whose primary diagnosis is a developmental disability, whether they are ambulatory, use a walker or are non-ambulatory, and whether or not they need personal care or medical treatments. Licensed nursing staff manage complex medical needs during the day, and CARF International has accredited its adult day services. It is certified by the NC Division of Aging as a specialized developmental disabilities provider, and certified in North Carolina for adult day health and developmental disabilities care for up to 48 participants.

Under a registered nurse and with a physician's order, staff provide seizure monitoring, diabetes management, urinary catheterization, tube feeding, medication administration, nebulizer treatments, oxygen therapy and wound care. Nurses coordinate with physicians and families. Staff help with daily activities such as toileting and feeding as needed. The program does not offer rehabilitative therapies. It provides transportation for outings and activities.

The program is at 501 S Mendenhall St #302, Greensboro, NC 27403, and runs Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 3 PM. It is an Innovations waiver provider through Trillium Health Resources and also accepts other federal or state funding or private pay. Participants attend at least six hours a day, two days a week. The program does not provide rides to and from the center, but pays for public transportation for Innovations participants. Tours are offered weekdays 9–11 AM and 1–3 PM by appointment, and applying requires a completed application, a reference form and a $25 application fee. Call (336) 379-7670.
