Cohen Adult Day and Community Support Services (Bridges)

The Cohen Adult Day and Community Support Services program is run by Bridges Home & Community Services, an affiliate of Spectrum Generations, on the lower level of the William S. Cohen Community Center in Hallowell. It provides center-based daytime care and companionship for older, cognitively impaired adults and serves adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in the same setting. The program has a large activity room, a smaller room for independent work, a kitchen, a covered patio and a shower, and members eat lunch upstairs in the community center's dining room. Visitors to the community center describe good meals, a clean building and friendly staff and volunteers. It is licensed in Maine as an Adult Day Services Program for up to 30 participants.

The program serves a hot meal prepared in Bridges' commercial kitchens, along with physical activities, skill-building activities, socialization and community outings using an ADA-compliant van. Members help choose daily activities, and visiting programs have included Matter of Balance classes, Literacy Volunteers and musicians. Bridges notes Registered Nurse oversight, Certified Residential Medication Aides and dietician-approved meals.

The program is downstairs in the Cohen Community Center at 22 Town Farm Rd, Hallowell, ME 04347, reachable by elevator, stairs or a back driveway entrance. It runs Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., with hours that can vary by individual need. Bridges offers a free visit and helps families work out a schedule and funding.
