Memory Matters is a nonprofit on William Hilton Parkway in Hilton Head Island focused on brain health and dementia care. Its COMPASS Adult Social Day Program and Caregiver Respite serves people with mild to moderate memory loss or a diagnosis of Alzheimer's or another dementia, through therapeutic activities that support cognitive, physical and emotional well-being. Memory Matters also runs CONNECTIONS and RE-CONNECTIONS small-group programs for people with early memory changes, memory screenings, caregiver education and support groups. Families describe compassionate staff and real improvement in a loved one's mood, and caregivers praise the Savvy Caregiver class and support groups, though one reviewer reports a poor experience at an initial meeting. It is licensed in South Carolina as an adult day care facility for up to 40 participants.
Services & Care
COMPASS participants take part in art and music therapy, gentle yoga, relaxation, exercise and social activities that support memory and attention, and a healthy lunch is provided. A certified nursing assistant helps with personal care, safety and daily needs. Memory Matters also offers memory screenings, caregiver education and support groups, and Palmetto Breeze transit brings some participants to its programs.
