The Life Center of Davidson County

The Life Center of Davidson County has provided adult day care and health services to older and disabled adults in Davidson and nearby counties since 1980. It has earned the Alzheimer's Foundation of America's Excellence in Care status and says it is the only center in North Carolina recognized as a Dementia Program of Distinction. Staff are trained in CPR and first aid and in dementia care, and include a registered nurse as health care coordinator and certified nursing assistants. Families describe enthusiastic, caring staff, including care for a stepfather with early-onset dementia and a father who is a Vietnam veteran. It is certified by North Carolina as an Adult Day Care and Day Health program for up to 65 participants.

Breakfast, lunch and an afternoon snack are made on site from fresh ingredients and approved by a registered dietitian, with modified diets as ordered by a participant's physician. Activities are planned around each person's interests and abilities, with time for rest, and the center is Music & Memory certified. Health staff check blood pressure, oxygen level, temperature, breathing and weight monthly, and the RN coordinator can work with a participant's doctor when more monitoring is needed. The center also runs caregiver support groups and a caregiver academy.

The center is at 601 W Center St, Lexington, NC 27292, and is open Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. It suits people who can benefit from group activities, transfer from a wheelchair to a chair with minimal help, and feed themselves independently or with cueing.
