Partners for Potential

Partners for Potential has provided training and support to multicultural adults with developmental disabilities for more than 40 years. Its community integration training program takes place mostly in community settings across Los Angeles and Orange Counties, with a drop-in facility at its Van Nuys main office for people who cannot be in the community full time. The program serves adults 18 and over with intellectual disabilities, autism, cerebral palsy and seizure disorders, and uses bilingual instructors to remove language barriers. It is free to clients, funded by regional centers and donors, and reports a 1:3 staff-to-participant ratio. It is licensed by the California Department of Social Services as an Adult Day Program for up to 60 participants.

Training covers job skills, travel training, computer skills, ESL, communication, reading and writing, money counting and budgeting, shopping, exercise and health, cooking, arts and crafts, landscaping and social skills, using a learn-by-doing approach. Staff vehicles provide door-to-door transportation from home and between activities. Instructors speak languages including Armenian, ASL, Cantonese, Farsi, Korean, Mandarin, Spanish, Tagalog, Turkish and Vietnamese.

The main office is at 6255 Van Nuys Blvd, Van Nuys, CA 91401. Programs run Monday through Friday from about 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., including transportation. The program is open to adults 18 and over with developmental disabilities and is funded by regional centers at no cost to clients.
