RecPlex Discovery Adult Day Program

The Pleasant Prairie RecPlex, a large municipal recreation center, runs the Discovery Adult Day Program through its Therapeutic Recreation department for adults 18 and older with a variety of physical and intellectual disabilities. The program aims to support social, emotional, physical and mental growth through recreation, with an 8-to-1 participant-to-staff ratio and staff trained to help with personal care and activities of daily living. Participants use the RecPlex facilities and grounds for swimming, gym games, trail walks and ice skating, and there is an after-school program for 18- to 21-year-olds and an 11-week summer camp. One parent review mentions frustration with the program's enrollment paperwork. It is certified in Wisconsin as an Adult Day Care Center for up to 60 participants.

Activities include swimming, arts and crafts, exercise and gym games, community outings, music and games, trail walks, yard games, gardening, ice skating, pontoon boat rides, bowling, library visits and monthly music therapy. Staff assist with personal care and activities of daily living. From September to May, enrolled participants can also join clubs such as a swim club.

The program is at the Pleasant Prairie RecPlex, 9900 Terwall Terrace, Pleasant Prairie, WI 53158.
