Sunnyside Community Services Social Adult Day Program

The Social Adult Day Program at Sunnyside Community Services offers specialized support and therapeutic activities for older adults with cognitive impairments such as Alzheimer's disease. It is meant to help people with memory loss keep living at home while giving their caregivers respite. The program has a low staff-to-participant ratio and a home-like space with a kitchen, dining room and activity area, and children from the agency's pre-K visit every week. SCS also offers caregivers in-home support through its Care NYC program. The program is supported by the NYC Department for the Aging and is listed in New York City's registry of social adult day care programs.

Certified aides help participants with personal care and give medication reminders. Daily activities include yoga, music, art, games and pet therapy, and pre-K children visit weekly. A light breakfast and a hot lunch are cooked fresh on site every day. Door-to-door transportation is provided in a wheelchair-accessible van for people in western Queens.
