Total Life Center Raleigh

Total Life Center Raleigh is one of the adult day centers (called Total Life Centers, or TLCs) that the nonprofit Resources for Seniors has operated in Wake County since 1978. The program gives dependent adults a full day of socialization, structured activities and supervision, and gives family caregivers a break or coverage while they work. Raleigh is a combination center, meaning a nurse is on staff who can give medications, provide wound care and other health services, and act as a liaison with a participant's doctor. Families in reviews describe the center as a lifeline for caring for a parent with dementia and mention a welcoming staff, plenty of activities and a spacious facility. It is certified by the State of North Carolina as an adult day care and adult day health program for up to 88 participants.

A typical day includes socialization, breakfast, current events and reality orientation, chair aerobics and physical games, special activities and life-skills sessions, lunch, rest, small-group time and an afternoon snack. Because Raleigh is a combination (social/health) center, its nurse may administer medications, provide wound and tracheotomy care, perform tube feedings, support incontinence care and administer oxygen.
