Arc of San Diego Sulpizio Family Center

The Sulpizio Family Center is The Arc of San Diego's main center near downtown San Diego and the hub for its Adult Development Center, Activity Center, Community Inclusion Services, Seniors Program and Day Training. The Adult Development Program works with a 1:4 instructor-to-participant ratio and provides ongoing assessment and teaching in self-help, socialization, daily living, sensory-motor and communication skills for adults with developmental disabilities. Site-based programs use eight themed rooms, including a computer lab, sensory stimulation room, theatre, spa, pet and nature, music, and arts and crafts rooms, while community-based programs spend most of the day out volunteering, working or visiting places around San Diego. Families praise caring, loving staff, though one participant review reports problems with bullying. It is licensed by the California Department of Social Services as an Adult Day Program for up to 225 participants.

The Adult Development Center and Activity Center offer structured, site-based programming focused on self-help, daily living, social and communication skills, with a 1:4 instructor-to-participant ratio. Themed rooms support computer use, sensory stimulation, therapeutic recreation, theatre, music, art and crafts, and pet and nature activities. Day Training combines classroom instruction with community integration and vocational development, and Community Inclusion Services and the Seniors Program take participants into the community for volunteering, paid work and outings to parks, museums and senior centers.
