Merging Happiness & Inclusion

Merging Happiness & Inclusion is a nonprofit in Smyrna that runs a weekday day program for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Each new participant starts with a four-week skills assessment, followed by goal-setting with the participant and family and a written Individualized Program Plan. Goals cover exercise, music, art, life skills and vocational skills, and outside behavior technicians, speech therapists and occupational therapists can attend alongside their clients. Families and visitors describe a welcoming, inclusive setting, dedicated leaders and an activities manager who keeps participants busy with fun and learning. It is licensed in Tennessee as an adult day services provider.

The program focuses on building independence through personalized goals in exercise, music, art, life skills and vocational skills, reviewed with families. Fresh meals and snacks are prepared on site, and mealtimes are used to practice independence and social skills. Staff are CPR certified, the center is professionally deep-cleaned monthly, and outside specialists such as behavior technicians and speech or occupational therapists may work one-on-one with participants during the day.
