The Jewish Community Center of Staten Island runs a Memory Loss Program for people with recently diagnosed to mid-stage Alzheimer's disease and related dementias. It includes Rosemary's Place, an early-stage memory center, and My Place, a memory center for people with mild or mid-stage dementia, both funded by NYC Aging (DFTA). Through classes and support groups, participants socialize, take part in creative activities and practice daily living skills, and the JCC presents the program as an affordable alternative to institutional or in-home care. It is listed in New York City's registry of social adult day care programs.
Services & Care
Participants enjoy kosher lunches and snacks, discussion groups and current events, exercise and nutritional counseling, memory-enhancing activities, creative art and music programs, and gardening. Support groups are offered for participants, and staff work with families to support emotional well-being and daily living skills. The JCC also leads the Staten Island Dementia Coalition and runs a Caregiver Support Center.
