Friends For Life Adult Day Center

Friends For Life is a Waco nonprofit that supports seniors and people with disabilities, and its Adult Day Center operates in the Meyer Family Intergenerational Center on Lakewood Drive. The center offers a safe, social day for adults 18 and older so family caregivers can keep working or take a break. A full-time activity director plans the days, licensed vocational nurses give medications and care, and certified nursing assistants help with personal care. Families, volunteers and board members describe respectful, compassionate care, and one mother says the center lets her keep working while her daughter is safe with friends. It is licensed by Texas Health and Human Services as a Day Activity and Health Services (DAHS) facility for up to 120 participants.

Licensed vocational nurses administer daily care and medications and check blood pressure and weight, and certified nursing assistants help with personal care. Breakfast, lunch and snacks are planned by a registered dietitian. Activities include bingo, karaoke, arts and crafts, sing-alongs, dances, chair yoga, movies and devotions, plus field trips to parks, fairs and library programs with a nurse along on most trips. Transportation to and from the center is offered, with restrictions.
