Gesher, which means "bridge" in Hebrew, is a group wellness day program for adults with disabilities run by the Disability Inclusion team at the Harry & Rose Samson Family Jewish Community Center. It is designed as a next step after high school transition programs, helping participants build independence, friendships and community involvement. Participants work on wellness skills such as mindful exercise and personal hygiene, and on practical skills such as money management and paying bills. They also use the JCC's fitness floor and exercise spaces and join yoga classes. It is certified in Wisconsin as an Adult Day Care Center for up to 14 participants.
Services & Care
Participants work in groups and on their own to build skills for a healthy, independent life, including hygiene, a fitness routine, goal setting, mindfulness and handling emotions. Practical skills include money handling and paying bills. Gesher participants have access to the JCC's fitness floor and exercise spaces throughout the week, from cardio to weightlifting, and take part in regular yoga classes.
