Glenner Town Square

Glenner Town Square is an adult day center for people with Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia, run by the George G. Glenner Alzheimer's Family Centers, a San Diego County nonprofit founded in 1982. The center is designed as a replica of a 1950s town, with storefronts such as a diner, movie theater and pet store, and participants rotate through them in small groups of similar ability as part of a structured reminiscence therapy program. Glenner budgets a 5:1 participant-to-direct care staff ratio and has a nurse on site during operating hours. Families praise the setting and the respite it offers, while one reviewer felt staff did not respond well to their mother's anxiety as her dementia progressed. It is licensed by the California Department of Public Health as an Adult Day Health Care center.

Services include an RN or LVN on site, medication management, dementia-specific activities, brain-fit exercises, music, pet and reminiscence therapy, and professionally facilitated caregiver support groups. Two meals are included in the full-day rate, provided through a partnership with Meals on Wheels San Diego. Physical, occupational and speech therapy are offered only when clinically indicated and supported by a funding source, and transportation assistance is available.

Glenner Town Square is at 2765 Main St, Chula Vista, CA 91911, and is open Monday through Friday, 8:45 AM to 5:15 PM. Full-day and half-day rates are available, and private pay, long-term care insurance and VA benefits are accepted; Glenner does not participate in Medi-Cal's CBAS program.
