The CarePartners Dementia Day Center is a nonprofit day program in Houston's medical center area, run by CarePartners, an organization that supports people living with dementia and the families who care for them. The center is designed specifically for adults with Alzheimer's disease or another form of dementia and, unusually for the Greater Houston area, welcomes participants from early to moderate-late stages. That lets people keep attending as their condition progresses, without the confusion of moving to a new setting. The day is built around a calm, predictable routine, structured programming and therapeutic recreation, with staff trained in dementia care. The center is licensed by Texas Health and Human Services as a Day Activity and Health Services (DAHS) facility for up to 80 participants.
Services & Care
Participants are supervised by staff experienced in dementia care, with an on-site nurse and a low participant-to-staff ratio, in a safe and secure environment. Wellness programs include chair exercise, yoga, a walking club and meditation. Life-enrichment classes include short-story discussions, music, cooking, dance, drama, painting and art, and specialty programs help participants stay engaged with their community and explore their interests. CarePartners also offers caregiver support, including consultations, education and the Common Ground support group.
Access & Practical Info
The center is at 3838 Aberdeen Way, Houston, TX 77025, and is open Monday to Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., for full or half days. The full-day rate is $115 (5 hours 30 minutes or more) and the half-day rate is $100. Medicare and Medicaid are not accepted, but financial assistance is available, and long-term care insurance may cover the fees. To attend, a person must have a dementia diagnosis confirmed by a physician, be able to bear weight, be medically stable, eat with no or minimal assistance and take part in activities with minimal help. Families can book a tour through the CarePartners website or call (713) 682-5995.
