Chinese Community Center Adult Day Care (Chao Senior Center)

The Chinese Community Center is a long-established nonprofit in southwest Houston that runs educational, cultural and social service programs. Its T.T. and W.F. Chao Senior Center, in Building C of the center's campus, provides a structured day program for older adults, supported by Texas Health and Human Services. The program aims to help participants stay independent and improve their physical, social, cultural, emotional and spiritual well-being in a safe and enjoyable setting. Information is available in both English and Chinese. The center is licensed as a Day Activity and Health Services (DAHS) facility for up to 94 participants.

Services include health assessments, health education, medication management, personal care assistance and social services, along with help with grocery shopping and doctor's appointments. Breakfast, lunch and snacks are provided, and transportation is available for limited locations. The activity schedule includes tai chi for arthritis, chair exercise, gentle chair yoga, dancing and walking, arts and crafts, educational workshops, field trips, meditation, karaoke, choir, mahjong, movies, reading, bingo and Bingocize, and monthly birthday parties.

The Chao Senior Center is at 9800 Town Park Drive, Building C, Houston, TX 77036. The adult day program is open Monday to Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., and closed on major holidays. Medicaid clients can join for free; people who don't qualify for Medicaid can ask about the center's daily rates.
