Blue Ridge Community Action Adult Day Center

Blue Ridge Community Action (BRCA), a Morganton community action agency, runs this adult day center for older adults and disabled adults aged 18 and older who need a safe, structured day while their caregivers work or rest. The program focuses on people affected by Alzheimer's disease, stroke, depression, dementia and aging. A wife describes her husband with Lewy body dementia as well cared for, and other reviewers praise the staff. The state record lists it as Quaker Meadows Generations Adult Day Services, and it is certified by North Carolina as an Adult Day Care and Day Health program for up to 32 participants.

Each participant has an individual care plan. Breakfast, lunch and an afternoon snack are served, and staff give medications and do health checks such as blood pressure. Activities include modified exercise, music, arts and crafts, health education, celebrations, intergenerational activities and alternative therapies, with field trips to parks, museums and events when funding allows.

The center is at 800 N Green St, Morganton, NC 28655 (BRCA's office hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays). Participants must be 18 or older, able to help with transfers, continent, and able to feed themselves. Private pay is $45 to $57 a day depending on level of care; Medicaid through the CAP program, Home & Community Care Block Grant funds and VA benefits may cover eligible participants.
