DDSO Parkway

The Developmental Disabilities Service Organization (DDSO) is a Sacramento nonprofit, founded over 40 years ago, that runs programs for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Its programs offer job training and employment, physical education, visual and performing arts, life-skill building, social interaction and community participation, and DDSO says it serves about 150 adults each year. The Parkway site on 47th Avenue includes a community theatre where participants perform, and artists also work in painting, ceramics, sewing, jewelry making, music and digital animation. Reviewers of the theatre praise its productions and say it gives back to the community. It is licensed by the California Department of Social Services as an Adult Day Program for up to 150 participants.

DDSO programs focus on independence, job training and employment, physical education, life skills, social interaction and active participation in the community. Arts are central: participants explore painting, drawing, ceramics, sewing, jewelry making, music, theatre and digital animation, and their art is exhibited and sold. Volunteering in the community is also part of the program.
