Total Life Center – Eastern Wake

The Eastern Wake Total Life Center (TLC) is one of several adult day centers that Resources for Seniors has run in Wake County since 1978, for families who want to keep an older relative at home but can't provide 24-hour care. East Wake is a combination (social and health model) center, which means a nurse is on staff. The nurse can give medications, provide wound and tracheostomy care, do tube feedings, manage incontinence and give oxygen. A home care agency says its clients speak highly of the center, while another reviewer saw little interaction on visits. It is certified by North Carolina as an Adult Day Care and Day Health program for up to 25 participants.

A typical day includes breakfast, current events and reality orientation, chair aerobics, special activities and life skills, lunch, rest and small-group time, physical games and an afternoon snack. The on-staff nurse can give medications, provide wound care and tracheostomy care, do tube feedings, run incontinence training and care, and give oxygen. The nurse also works with families and participants' doctors.
