Special Angels of The Woodlands is a faith-based nonprofit on Pruitt Road in Spring that runs an Individualized Skills and Socialization (ISS) day habilitation activity center for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). The center has served the community for 22 years and runs Monday to Friday, with activities at the center and out in the community. It aims to build self-reliance, social skills and community involvement, and gives families respite time during the day. About 55% of its budget comes from donations, and it says each client attends for less than $45 a day; an Adopt an Angel fund helps with tuition. Families say their sons and daughters come home happy and mention outdoor activities, cooking, arts, educational outings and a spacious center.
Services & Care
At the center, clients make crafts, plan parties, dance, garden, socialize and pack care packages for soldiers overseas. Outings include birthday lunches, trips to the library and park, shopping, bowling, volunteering, the movies and occasional trips to the zoo and aquarium. Families also mention cooking and learning activities.
