Valley Achievement Center Adult Services

Valley Achievement Center (VAC) is a Bakersfield nonprofit founded in 1998 to serve people with autism and other developmental disabilities, and its Ming Ave location houses its adult services. The Adult Day Program offers on-site classes using a person-centered planning model, focusing on behavior management strategies, self-help skills, self-advocacy and relationship building. Each day participants can choose to join a community outing to practice what they have learned. VAC also offers a Tailored Day Service, vocational training and supported employment for adults. It is licensed by the California Department of Social Services as an Adult Day Program for up to 24 participants.

The Adult Day Program teaches functional daily living skills, proactive behavior management strategies, self-help, self-advocacy and relationship skills through on-site classes, with an optional community outing each day. VAC's other adult services include Tailored Day Service (individualized training toward employment, volunteering, college or community integration), a paid internship program, vocational social adjustment training and individual supported employment.
