Day Break at Modern Maturity Center

Day Break is a structured, supervised adult day program at the Modern Maturity Center in Dover for functionally impaired people age 60 and older. Founded in 1982, it aims to help participants avoid or delay institutional placement, support their social, mental and physical functioning, and give family caregivers respite. A full-time RN or LPN gives medications and provides basic nursing, certified nursing assistants help with daily activities, and meals are served in the program's private dining room. The Modern Maturity Center itself is a large senior center, and most Google reviews describe its meals, classes and events rather than Day Break. It is licensed by the State of Delaware as an adult day care center for up to 60 participants.

A full-time RN or LPN gives medications, monitors vital signs and provides basic nursing care, and certified nursing assistants supervise and help with activities of daily living. A light breakfast, hot lunch and snacks are served daily. A planned schedule of group and individual activities includes exercise, music, games, crafts, outings and social events. Door-to-door transportation is arranged through the Modern Maturity Center's transportation programs or DART Paratransit.

Day Break is at the Modern Maturity Center, 1121 Forrest Ave, Dover, DE 19904. The program is open Monday through Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Applicants are interviewed at Day Break to determine eligibility, and a medical history and exam by their primary care physician is required.
