Caroline County Health Department Medical Adult Day Care

The Medical Adult Day Care program of the Caroline County Health Department helps adults with health impairments stay in their homes and communities and avoid early nursing home placement, while giving caregivers respite. A team of nurses, social workers, health aides, activities staff and drivers runs the program in the Health and Public Services Building in Denton. Costs follow a sliding fee scale based on household income, and services may be covered for people with Medicaid or Veterans Administration benefits. Google reviews for the health department as a whole are mixed and mostly concern other services. It is licensed in Maryland as an Adult Medical Day Care for up to 33 participants.

Nurses provide medication administration and treatments ordered by each participant's doctor, and a licensed social worker helps families find resources. Family-style breakfast and lunch are served daily with snacks, and special diets can be accommodated. Staff help with bathing, hair and nail care and shaving, and a beautician is available for an extra fee. Daily activities include music, exercise, parties, educational activities and games, and accessible vehicles take participants to the program, doctor's appointments and field trips.

The program is in Room 141 on the first floor of the Health and Public Services Building, 403 S 7th St, Denton, MD 21629. It runs Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., and closes on state and county holidays and when county schools close for weather. Participants must be at least 16, under a physician's care, free of tuberculosis and able to attend at least two days a week for four hours a day; enrollment starts with a meeting and observation tour.
