Unique Abilities Montessori Adult Day Program

Unique Abilities is a Montessori adult day program for adults with developmental disabilities who are clients of a regional center. Learning is built around each person's interests using Montessori materials, with training in life skills and self-advocacy. The program has its own art studio, music studio and library, takes participants into the community for field trips and volunteering, and offers workforce development, including a pilot with Alta California Regional Center to help participants use Sacramento's career centers. Daily programming covers independent life skills, Montessori learning through the five senses, self-advocacy, and creative expression through painting, clay sculpting and weaving. Community integration includes field trips, volunteering, use of public transportation and visits to local galleries. Participants interested in work can train in job readiness, and staff escort them to career center workshops. The program lists a 1:4 staff-to-client ratio.
