ArizonAbility Adult Day Program at UCP of Central Arizona

ArizonAbility is the Day Treatment and Training for Adults (DTA) program of UCP of Central Arizona, on the organization's Parkside Lane campus in north Phoenix. It is designed for adults with developmental and physical disabilities who want an active day that builds independence and social connections. The campus has an accessible greenhouse and raised garden beds at wheelchair height, an adaptive exercise circuit, an accessible basketball court, a walking path and putting green, and an outdoor event center. Members also run the YUMees Snack Shack, learning ordering, stocking and money skills. One family in a review says the staff communicate well and keep members busy, and that their son comes home happy.

The culinary program teaches menu planning, shopping and meal preparation, with members cooking for peers and staff every Friday. Horticulture activities in the greenhouse and garden beds tie in with wellness and nutrition, and the visual arts program displays members' work on site and online. Members meet monthly to choose community outings such as shopping, local history and volunteering, and an empowered-living track works on choice-making, rights and self-determination. The program uses bilingual tools and culturally relevant activities.
