Beacon Specialized Living Pillars Day Program

The Pillars Day Program is the adult day program of Beacon Specialized Living - Ohio, which provides Individual Options waiver services to adults with developmental disabilities and is authorized by the Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities. The program is built on four pillars: community life, work exploration, meaningful connection and fun, using person-centered assessments to help people find their interests and support needs. People can attend the campus-based program, the community-based program or both, full time or part time. The community-based program operates under Ohio's Adult Day Support billing options. The campus-based program follows weekly themes and includes morning meetings with light exercise, reading, math and tactile learning, arts and crafts such as painting, pottery and knitting, cooking classes, music therapy, a sensory room, visiting instructors and an optional weekly community outing. Community-based groups of up to four people per staff member plan their activities monthly with participants and go to places like the mall, movies, bowling and Meals on Wheels, with a focus on budgeting, planning and community integration. Staff pick people up between 8:30 and 10 a.m. and drop them off between 3 and 4:30 p.m., and medication administration is offered. Lunch is not provided; participants bring their own, and the campus has a microwave and refrigerator.

The Pillars Day Program is based at Beacon's Ohio support center, 600 Lakeview Plaza Blvd, Suite A, Worthington, OH 43085, open Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. It serves adults 18 and older living in or near the Columbus metro area, and behavior needs are reviewed case by case. Participants usually bring their own money for community activities, with monthly calendar budgets of about $60 to $80.
