Cortney's Place was founded in 2007 by Jim and Cindy Carpenter, inspired by their daughter Cortney, as a center-based day program for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities who have graduated from the public school system. This location is on Shea Boulevard in Scottsdale, and a second program runs in Phoenix on North 35th Avenue. The program follows a monthly curriculum of therapies, classes and community outings, and meets each member at their ability level with adaptive equipment and staff help. Families in reviews describe staff who know members well, a structured day, and adult children who make friends and want to attend; one family moved from Washington State to enroll their son.
Services & Care
Music therapy and hydrotherapy are offered twice a week, along with yoga and pet therapy. Monthly classes include healthy cooking, art, life skills, adaptive fitness, and science and technology using SMART Boards. Members go out into the community daily, to places such as the library, grocery store, bowling, art studios, parks, movies, plays, museums and aquariums.
