Slingshot / Alpha Art Studio

Slingshot / Alpha Art Studio is a progressive art studio for artists with intellectual and developmental disabilities, run by Alpha Resource Center of Santa Barbara. Alpha operated its art studio as part of its adult day services for decades before opening Slingshot in 2013 as a dedicated downtown art center. Following a person-centered approach that values creative process over formal technique, the studio supports around 40 artists from their mid-twenties to early seventies with materials, facilitation and accommodations, and its artists show work in local, regional and national exhibitions, public art and commissions. Visitors describe talented artists, supportive staff and affordable artwork whose proceeds support the program. It is licensed by the California Department of Social Services as an Adult Day Program for up to 35 participants.

Artists receive access to art materials, facilitation and accommodations so they can develop a sustained art practice at any experience level. The studio emphasizes professional development and representation, with exhibitions, collaborative projects, public art and commissions. Artwork and merchandise are sold through the studio, with proceeds supporting the program.

The studio is at 1911 De La Vina St Ste B, Santa Barbara, CA 93101. It is open Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Call (805) 770-3878 to ask about joining as an artist or to visit the gallery.
